Each month, the Carlos Rosario School will introduce you to our Shining Stars. These distinguished students and alumni have a passion for learning. They have achieved success through hard work and a commitment to excellence, exemplifying the School‘s values.

March‘s Shining Star is Xenia Carrillo.

Xenia Carrillo came to the United States from El Salvador, where she worked as a quality supervisor at a Hanes clothing factory. She began studying at the Carlos Rosario School in 2006 and after just two months in the Orientation class, she advanced to Level 3 due to her quick grasp of English. Xenia completed her English courses at Rosario and then qualified to participate in the inaugural Nurse Aide Training Program. After receiving her professional certification in August 2009, she began applying for jobs as a Certified Nurse Assistant. It did not take long for Xenia to find a job in this high-demand field. By October she had accepted a full-time position at Sunrise Assisted Living, caring for five patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Xenia makes full use of her bilingual skills, as one of her patients is from Panama and primarily speaks Spanish. It is not uncommon to find Xenia and her patients chatting, playing bingo, reading books, and even dancing together every Wednesday during Ballroom Dance Day. Xenia, who is appreciated by all of her patients and their families, says of her job, “I love it and I feel good doing it.”
