José Marco Artiga Landaverde, a Spanish GED student at the Carlos Rosario School, won second place in the Finding Gabriela Poetry Contest sponsored by the D.C. Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs. José won $100 for his poem Extasis and was recognized at an awards ceremony on April 24th at Gala Hispanic Theatre.

Mattias Kramer, one of the contest organizers, said of José , “He is a special and focused talent, and the commission, which included the Embassy of Chile, Embassy of El Salvador, Gabriela Mistral Foundation, and Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs, was excited to have such a winner and a representative from Carlos Rosario.”

José also won the Carlos Rosario School’s morning Spelling Bee earlier this month. We wish José continued success!
