There are two general registration and open enrollment periods before the beginning of each semester, one for returning students and another for new applicants. (Exceptions are Family Literacy, CSS 100, CSS 200, CSS 300 and Culinary Arts). Each period covers several consecutive days, as they include pre-registration for returning students, and an application-selection-registration process for new ones.
During open enrollment a lottery is held for courses for which the number of applications received is greater than the number of spaces available. Eligible students who are selected through the lottery process then complete the registration process. The remaining applicants are placed on a lottery waiting list in the order their names were drawn. Students on the lottery waiting list will be called to finish with the registration process, in the order their name was placed on the waiting list, as spaces become available after the semester has started.
Registration periods are held in August(Fall semester) and January(Spring semester) of each year. Check with our office by phone, 202-797-4700, check our website or enquire in person to find out what are the enrollment requirements and registration dates. If you are a new student who wants to apply, or a returning student seeking pre-registration, you must be sure to come on the correct dates and times and bring all necessary documentation.
Names on the lottery waiting lists do not roll over from semester to semester. If you submitted your application and were placed on the waiting list for one semester, you must re-apply to be considered again for any future semester.
On June 18, 19 and 20 a limited number of entry tickets will be distributed. On June 18 doors will close when the last entry ticket is distributed or at 6:30pm, whichever comes first. On June 19 and 20 doors will close when the last entry ticket is distributed or at 7:30pm, whichever comes first.
