On Saturday, June 24th 200 residents were displaced by a fire that destroyed an apartment complex at 13th and Peabody Street NW. This early morning fire left residents, including many young children, scrambling to safety with just the clothes on their backs. This Washington Post article details the events.
Victims from the fire are predominantly low income and members of D.C.’s immigrant community and are in need of basic supplies such as diapers, clothes, hygiene supplies and food. The School, as a nonprofit 501 c(3) dedicated to serving the immigrant community, is hosting the Peabody Street Fire Family Support Fund, which will support families affected by the fire including the 10 who are enrolled at the Carlos Rosario School.
