JOHN MARCHESE, VP ADVANCEMENT

John Marchese joined the Carlos Rosario team in 2025, bringing him back to the DC area. As Vice President of Advancement, he leads the Development and Communications teams in their efforts to tell the School’s story, forge new connections, and deepen partnerships and engagement to fulfill the School’s mission.
 
He earned a BA in Philosophy with a Spanish minor from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, an MA in Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago, as well as an MA in Romance Languages & Literatures and a Ph.D. in Literature from the University of Notre Dame. His dissertation focused on twentieth century prose from El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, and Nicaragua. As someone who has been both student and teacher of language and cultures, he feels right at home in the Carlos Rosario School community.
 
Parallel to his work in education, his professional career has been marked by service to migrants and the root causes of migration. He led Su Casa Catholic Worker in Chicago, which operated a family shelter for migrants impacted by violence and displacement and later launched a migrant justice program during the time he served as Executive Director of the Quixote Center in Maryland. Most recently, he served as Executive Director for a community college foundation in Upstate New York.
 
John has earned the CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) designation and served on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Finger Lakes Chapter, in addition to several other boards in human services, advocacy, and the arts.
